Polish Buttermilk Coffeecake

This cake is just as good for breakfast as it is for dessert, maybe better!

1/2 c. shortening (can use 1 stick margarine)
2 c. sugar (can use only 1 c.)
2 eggs
4 c flour
1 tsp. salt (optional)
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c buttermilk

Topping:
1/2 c. butter and equal amounts of flour and sugar to make crumbs

Preheat oven to 325
Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda; set aside
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs
Stir in flour mixture
Add buttermilk, beat well
Pour into 2 9″ x 13″ pans
Sprinkle topping over dough
Bake 45 minutes
